Warped Cigars have been around since the mid-2000s, and have been a fan favorite of many in the cigar community. They pride themselves on making cigars with unique, but traditional flavor profiles. Warped Cigars are known to have excellent, rich flavor, and unique, but simple presentations.

The Eagles Descent by Warped Cigars comes in as a Toro Especial, roughly gauged at 5 5/8 x 52. It's a medium to full-bodied smoke, providing a good draw, and smooth flavor.

The Eagles Descent presents itself with a simple, but awesome black band, with orange accents, including lettering and an eagle prominently on the front. The wrapper is blemished, showing veins, creases, and looking a little rough. However, the wrapper is smooth to touch, and has a mild, oily sheen. The box is simple. A wooden box, with the same eagle design as displayed on the band of the cigar.

The Eagles Descent is constructed with a Nicaraguan Filler, Nicaraguan Binder, and Jalapa Corojo Wrapper, giving it a medium-brown coloring. The cigar cuts even with guillotine cut, and provides a smooth, but slightly tight draw. The burn starts of even, but as it progresses into the first third, the burn becomes uneven, requiring a touch-up. This burn remains consistent throughout the smoke, requiring some touch-ups here and there, but nothing to really ruin the experience. The ash holds strong as first, with a light-medium gray color. At around 1 1/2 inches, (just before the second third) the ash falls. While the ash isn't particularly flakey, it does become brittle throughout the smoke, causing the ash to fall every half inch or so.

The flavor profile is good. The cold draw provides notes of dried fruit and a little nuttiness. At first light, the palate is hit with black pepper, earth, and cinnamon. These will be some of the main tasting notes throughout the smoke. Mild notes of cashew and dried fruit linger as an undertone, with notes of ginger and semi-sweet chocolate dancing on the palate. Well into the first third, notes of cinnamon and earth become stronger, with black pepper moving to the back burner. There is also a subtle creaminess that comes into play. The retrohale features notes of black pepper, dried fruit, and toast.

The second third brings strong notes of earth and cinnamon, with milder notes of white pepper and dried fruit. While the white pepper notes dissipate, flavors of semi-sweet chocolate and toast take over. The earthy notes fade as well, allowing the semi-sweet chocolate and toasty notes to completely take over, along with milder notes of dried fruit and cashew.

The final third with bring the earthy notes back to the forefront of the palate, along with notes of cinnamon, charred oak, and toast. The creamy undertones come back into play, and compliment the cashew and semi-sweet chocolate well. The retrohale keeps with the black pepper and toast throughout the smoke, while adding subtle aromas of earth and oak. The Eagles Descent finishes with strong notes of earth, oak, and semi-sweet chocolate, with undertones of toast, cashew, and cinnamon.

The Eagles Descent is priced slightly higher than expected, coming in around $12.00 for a single stick, and $300 for a box of 25.

The Eagles Descent gives a rough presentation, with construction that has a few things that need to be tweaked. While the cigar is constructed with great tobacco, the ash situation can cause an issue if you're trying to stay clean. The flavor profile is good, giving great flavors of earth, oak, cashew, black pepper, cinnamon, and semi-sweet chocolate. While it does have subtle notes of dried fruit, toast, and cream, the Eagles Descent may leave some flavor to be desired. All in all, it's a great cigar, and one that should be tried by intermediate or veteran cigar smokers.

GC Rating: 86
