Room101 has been a staple of the cigar industry for years. Between Matt Booth's personality and the boldness of the cigars, there's nothing not to like. This latest cigar, the Hit & Run, is a collaboration between Matt Booth and Robert Caldwell. It has a great construction, strong body, and delicious flavor profile.
The Hit & Run keeps the cherry blossom that is seen on many cigars from Room101 that have come before. The band is white, with the cherry blossom having a bronze and silver color scheme. The secondary band is black with white lettering. The cigar itself has a dark brown wrapper. The wrapper is toothy, with some veins all around. It looks exactly what a San Andreas wrapper should look like.
The Hit & Run is constructed with Corojo 98, Nicaraguan, and Pennsylvania Fillers, Ecuadorian Sumatra Binder, and Mexican San Andreas Wrapper. The draw is constricted, but not tight. It almost forces you to smoke it slow and enjoy it. The burn is relatively even, though it may need touching up here and there. The ash is a light gray, and falls at around the one inch mark. While it falls early, it's pretty sturdy. After ashing, the foot doesn't flake at all, so your black shirt will be fine.
The flavor profile on the Hit & Run is very enjoyable, but robust. It's full in body and flavor. The cold draw provides notes of brown sugar and dried fruit. The first light, however, provides strong notes of dark roasted coffee, white pepper, and toast.
The first third features strong notes of white pepper, dark roasted coffee, and earth. These are complimented by subtler notes of semi-sweet chocolate and cinnamon, with a very mild cedar flavor. The retrohale on the first third features notes of black pepper, cocoa, and cedar.
The second third brings the notes of semi-sweet chocolate to the forefront of the palate, along with notes of earth, and a meaty note that you can't quite put your finger on. Mild notes of white pepper, cinnamon, and dark roasted coffee can also be tasted, along with a very subtle hint of ginger. The retrohale on the second third has notes of dark roasted coffee and black pepper.
The final third has stronger notes of earth, cedar, and white pepper. Notes of cocoa and toast linger on the palate, as well as notes of dark roasted coffee and cream. The retrohale on the final third features notes of cocoa, coffee, and black pepper.
The Hit & Run comes it at around $13.29 for a single, and $265.80 for a box of 20. Given the construction and flavor profile on the cigar, this is a good value. Although, if it was priced in the $11-$12 range, nobody would complain. All in all, a very enjoyable smoke for the price.
Given everything this cigar has to offer, the Hit & Run would be more suitable for someone with an established palate, and experience with a full bodied cigar.
