Rojas Cigars are the epitome of boutique cigar culture. Their blends are unique, the personality is amazing, and the culture behind it is filled with rich history. The newest cigar, the Rojas 10th Anniversary, is Noel Rojas' celebration of ten years in the industry as the premier boutique cigar blender.
The Rojas 10th Anniversary has an elegant but simple appearance. The wrapper is a dark brown, with a slight oily sheen. While it's relatively smooth to the touch, it does have some veins protruding. Both the main and secondary band are a deep purple, with gold accents and lettering.
The Rojas 10th Anniversary is constructed with Nicaraguan Fillers, Nicaraguan Binder, and Ecuadorian Habano Maduro Wrapper. The draw is smooth, but not too loose. The ash is a light gray, and sturdy. It falls around the two inch mark, and doesn't flake, making for a worry free smoking experience. The burn can be a little uneven at times, though it usually evens itself out.
The flavor profile is where the Rojas 10th Anniversary really shines. It's very complex, but all the flavor notes compliment each other very well. The cold draw provides notes of earth and dried fruit. The first light provides prominent notes of earth and roasted coffee, along with subtler notes of walnut and graham cracker.
The first third may feature front notes of roasted coffee and walnut. These are accompanied by notes of brown sugar and apricot, with a very subtle undertone of honey. The retrohale on the first third may feature notes of semi-sweet chocolate, white pepper, and nougat.
The second third may feature strong notes of earth, roasted coffee, and pastry. Notes of graham cracker and honey linger on the palate, along with subtle notes of fig and walnut. The retrohale on the second third may feature notes of apricot, white pepper, and semi-sweet chocolate.
The final third may feature notes of pastry and earth, along with notes of walnut coming to the forefront. Subtle notes of brown sugar, honey, and toast can also be experienced. The retrohale on the final third may feature notes of coffee, apricot, and a very mild aroma of vanilla.
The Rojas 10th Anniversary is priced very reasonably. A single cigar goes for around $15.00, while a box of ten goes for around $150.00. Given the flavor profile alone, this cigar is well worth the price. While there are some concerns about the presentation, that is more of a personal preference.
Despite the cigar being full in flavor, it's actually relatively medium in strength. This is a perfect cigar for a smoker well into their journey, though newer and veteran smokers will enjoy the experience as well.
