Lampert Cigars is a company that is based solely on experience and tradition. Their founder, Stefan Lampert, was inspired to create the brand by visiting a tailor. This gave him the idea to tailor his cigars specifically for his customer base. Since their inception, Lampert Cigars have combined quality, style, and tradition, which brings us to the review of the Lampert Don Patron.
The Don Patron has a very elegant and regal presentation. The band uses gold, black, white, and red accents to catch the eye, and give an ere of luxury. The wrapper is just as elegant. It's a beautiful tan color, and has little to no blemishes. The veins are almost nonexistent, and is smooth to the touch.
The Don Patron is constructed with Dominican and Peruvian Fillers, an Ecuadorian Bonder, and Ecuadorian Wrapper. After cutting, the cigar has an excellent draw. This does not change after lighting. Once lit, the cigar has a decent smoke output, providing ample opportunity to smell the aromas of the cigar. The ash is a light gray, and relatively sturdy. It falls around the one inch mark, and the foot does not flake after ashing. The burn can be a little uneven, so you may want to touch it up depending on your preference.
The flavor profile on the Don Patron is very complex. The cold draw provides notes of dried fruit and cream. The first light may provide strong notes of white pepper and walnut.
The first third may feature notes of earth with a creamy undertone. These are accompanied by milder notes of white pepper, cedar, ginger, dark brown sugar, and a very mild hint of vanilla. The retrohale on the first third may feature notes of walnuts, thyme, and white pepper.
The second third of this cigar may feature strong notes of light roast coffee, and a bit of honeysuckle. Mild notes of dry hay, ginger, and white pepper may also hit the palate, along with a buttery undertone. The retrohale on the second third may feature notes of walnuts, and milk chocolate.
The final third of the Don Patron may feature strong notes of walnut and cinnamon. Undertones of light roast coffee, dark brown sugar, and milk chocolate may also be tasted. There is also a mild creaminess throughout the final third. The retrohale on the final third may have notes of cedar, white pepper, and light roast coffee.
The Don Patron finishes milder than how it starts, with notes of walnuts, coffee, and cream.
The Don Patron is priced decently. A single toro can go for around $15.00, while a box of ten can go for around $150.00. While the construction was excellent, the flavor profile was very complex. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The flavors blended well together, but could have blended better. Given all of this, the Don Patron could be priced closer to $12-$13 per stick. That being said, this cigar is still highly recommended, and very enjoyable.
