All Saints and Mickey Pegg have become the poster children for successful boutique-brand cigars. The selection and range of flavor profiles have taken the cigar world by storm. Anybody who's smoked an All Saints cigar knows that it brings an experience of delicious flavors and aromas. The topic of this review, the Saint Francis Colorado, is no different. The Colorado is a great cigar for the newer cigar smokers, or the veteran smokers who are looking to expand their humidor repertoire.
To start, the Colorado features an prominently white label, with the gold All Saints cross, with red and black accents. The regal style of the band eludes to a smoke unlike many others, and brings an expectation of a delicious and unique blend. The cigar itself is presented in a lighter colored wrapper, giving it the impression of being a lighter-bodied cigar.
The Colorado is constructed with Nicaraguan binder and filler, and wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano Colorado Shade wrapper. If you are not familiar with the Colorado Shade, it is a wrapper that has a reddish color. Cigars wrapped in the Colorado Shade are usually light-medium bodied, and give off delicious flavors similar to the Connecticut Shade. The wrapper does seem a little veiny, but this doesn't take away from the experience of the smoke. The draw is smooth, and doesn't require you to work for your smoke. The ash gets to about an inch long before an ashtray is needed. The ash can be flaky at times, but again, this doesn't necessarily take away from the experience. The burn is even, and doesn't require a lot of attention once lit. While you may need to touch it up here and there, that may be caused by the way it was lit, or how it was stored. I have found that if it is kept between 69-72% humidity, the construction stays true, and there are little to no issues with the burn and ash.
Finally, the flavor profile. The Colorado brings an interesting profile to the palate. It starts with strong notes of pecan and molasses, while more subtle notes of cedar, vanilla, and honey work their way in. Notes of cedar and cinnamon can be enjoyed on the retrohale, giving a unique complexity to the smoke. Subtle notes of cream and oak work their way into the mix. At about the halfway point, notes of molasses, cedar, honey, and cream become more prominent, while very subtle notes of dried fruit and nuts linger on the palate. Mild notes of pepper accompany the cinnamon on the retrohale. This gives a little spice to the otherwise sweet cigar. While the cigar is sweet, it's not sickening. Think of it like a pecan pie with cranberries and milk on the side. It's a delicious cigar, and perfect for a Thanksgiving cigar.
The price point of this cigar gives you no excuse to add this to your humidor. The cigars smoked for this review were toros, so I'll be basing the price point factor off that. A single stick goes for around $11.50, while a box of 12 Colorado Toros goes for around $138.00. While it is a little on the higher end if you have a budget set in mind, it is well worth the price for what you get.
