AJ Fernandez is arguably one of the most recognized names in the cigar industry. Between the work he does with other brands and manufacturers, to his own cigar line that shares his name, AJ Fernandez has a reputation that precedes him. This review covers his newest creation, the Dias De Gloria Brazil.
The Dias De Gloria Brazil follows the same motif as its predecessor. The main band is green and gold, featuring a religious mural, tying in the name. The secondary band is gold with green accents, featuring the AJ Fernandez name. The rest of the cigar is wrapped in a this cedar veneer, with a green ribbon at the foot. The cigar itself is has a dark brown wrapper. The wrapper is toothy, with a slight oily sheen, almost looking like a San Andreas wrapper. There are a few veins that show throughout, but the wrap itself is relatively seamless.
The Dias De Gloria Brazil is constructed with Nicaraguan Binder and Nicaraguan Filler, and wrapped in a Brazilian Mata Fina Wrapper. The draw is smooth, but not too loose. There is a decent amount of smoke output, providing a nice aroma while smoking. The ash is almost white, and very sturdy, finally falling about two inches into the smoke. The burn is impeccable, and stays straight for a majority of the smoke. When ashed, to foot does not flake in anyway.
The flavor profile on the Dias De Gloria Brazil is delicious. Think of yourself sitting in a leather chair next to a coffee shop. The cold draw provides notes of damp earth and cocoa powder. The first light, however, starts of strong with notes of black pepper and semi-sweet chocolate.
The first third has strong notes of earth and semi-sweet chocolate. These are accompanied by undertones of black pepper, leather, and roasted pecans. Well into the first third, you may also taste a very mild note of espresso. The retrohale on the first third may provide notes of black pepper and brown sugar.
The second third may feature strong notes of earth and red pepper. Subtle notes of ginger, semi-sweet chocolate, and espresso may also be tasted, along with a very mild note of dry hay. The retrohale on the second third may feature notes of black pepper, brown sugar, and roasted pecans.
The final third brings back the strong note of black pepper to the palate, along with notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Mild notes of ginger, dark brown sugar and cedar may be tasted as well. The retrohale on the final third may feature notes of roasted pecans and cocoa.
The Dias De Gloria Brazil finishes strong with notes of black pepper, leather, semi-sweet chocolate, and roasted pecans.
The Dias De Gloria Brazil comes in at a competative price. A single toro goes for around $15.00, while a box of 20 goes for around $300.00. Given the flavor profile and construction, this is well worth $15.00 per stick. In fact, this cigar could be priced about one or two dollars more and still be worth the price. There are very few cigars that would be considered box-worthy, and the AJ Fernandez Dias De Gloria Brazil is one of them.
